Projects

OGLM has successfully implemented the following projects:

  • Buwaiswa Orphanage Children Home Ministries: Since 2000, OGLM has been operating this Orphanage for HIV/AIDS affected Children in Eastern Uganda. At full capacity the Orphanage has 72 HIV/AIDS affected Children. Another 782 HIV/AIDS orphans are being housed around especially among the grannies. These Grannies are the unsung heroes of Africa. Imagine at an age 89 a granny being given full time parent roles. Under this program, the Orphanage is supporting the Children with Education, Health & Care, and Feeding & Clothing. We are creating a sustainable system of Sponsorship whereby with only $32 per month for an HIV/AIDS affected Orphan we can be able to full provide for the Orphan, also an Orphan living with HIV/AIDS and due for HIV/AIDS treatment/ARVS its $45 per month. OGLM is now adapting the Children’s Village Model/Watoto Model like: This is a model where the orphans are grouped into 8 – 10 orphans and a mother is identified to look after them in a formed village. This becomes a family and each family of 8 - 10 is given a house of 3 bed rooms. This mother now provides a full time parent role. Constructing a family home under the Children’s village costs $23,000.
  • Supported 463 Sex Workers in areas of HIV/AIDS Care & Support including ARV treatment in Jinja, Mukono, Iganga, Bugiri and Busia Eastern Uganda. This was part of the Sexual Reproductive Health & rights Program. This program was run along the Busia – Kampala East African Route. This Project also targeted 65 Long Distance Truck Drivers. The Project also supported the targeted Sex workers to seek alternative sources of livelihood. This included, start up of small scale businesses like Hair & Barber Salons, Food Vendoring, News Paper Selling, Stationary Shops etc. Under sexual reproductive health and rights, the sex workers were given skills and information on the topic, we created peer educators, and work groups. Enough Condoms were distributed and ongoing counseling is still available. All the sex workers were trained on Condom education, tested for HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS treated availed to them. Family planning information and services were also provided to the Sex workers.
