Corresponding with your child at Buwaiswa
Orphanage Children's Home Ministries
The relationship between sponsor and child is the most important part of this program. Most of the children at BO have come from very difficult situations. Many of them have never had anyone, or no longer have anyone, that is “theirs.” It is a blessing for them to know someone cares about them, loves them, and is praying for them. Although the directors and staff at BO provide all the love they can it is virtually impossible for them to give special one-on-one attention to each child. This is where you have the opportunity to touch the life of a child in a most awesome and profound way.
We suggested that you keep it very simple. A card, pictures of you and your family, or small packages will mean a lot. Due to the cultural differences please be sure the photos are modest in nature and does not show bear abdomens or thighs. Although these children do not have a lot as compared to children in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe or Asia they are very blessed by what they do have. By Ugandan standards they have much more and live in a much nicer home than the majority of the people in Uganda. We have to be very cautious not to impart materialism on the children. Ugandan culture is a survival culture and BO is striving to prepare the children educationally, spiritually, and culturally for their adult lives as Ugandan citizens.
Below is a list of suggested items you may want to mail if you would like to send your child a small package. Postage can become fairly expensive so if you prefer to send a monetary gift to the child to purchase something on this end we ask that it will not be more than $5.per gift. You can send it with your monthly contributions. Be sure that you include a note to when you do this. BO will then either purchase the item for the child or take the child shopping. This is always a treat, especially for the older children.

I have had the privilege of seeing a child’s face when they receive a card or package from their sponsor. What a precious sight. The joy on the child’s face is indescribable.
