Sponsorship Opportunities
OGLM does not encourage a handout approach when helping the community. Our development Programs are not only focused on restoring people and their communities to their pre-crisis conditions, they also focus on establishing a process that enables those in need to build a self sufficient and self sustaining lifestyle as a community. Our development programs strive to permanently break the bonds and cycle of poverty of individuals, families and their communities.
Therefore we encourage volunteers to work closely with the OGLM administration in looking out into possible avenues to help the community. Our current program includes, but is not limited to the following sponsorship opportunities:
Education and training for AIDS Orphans through Child Sponsorship Program. $300 USD is custom: Tailored to meet the child's basic needs and his family for a year. This money will cover the child's school fees, school uniform, school supplies, and feeding and medical care.
Women Empowerment Program: This is done through teaching them practical skills towards initiating sustainable income generating projects. You can sponsor a family with $700 USD to initiate a pig project for profit. This project provides start-up capital in the form of equipment and animals. Women generate an income and supplement their diet by raising and selling livestock such as pigs or chickens.
Widows Handcraft Project: This group provides materials and teaches HIV/AIDS widows how to make handcrafts, which can be sold as a means of income. The project has a secondary function since it acts as a valuable support group within the community, where the women can make friends and share the challenges of being HIV positive. We encourage the volunteers to support these women through purchasing some of their crafts like the necklaces and other jewelleries made by the women.
HIV/AIDS Prevention & Counseling Program for rural communities: OGLM Provides free counseling services and HIV/AIDS blood tests and other STD related diseases to the rural community both within Kamuli & Jinja. We also provide free medical care for HIV/AIDS clients and weekly food supplies. We therefore appeal to all volunteers to help rise extra funding for this project. $50 USD would feed a family for a week and other medical needs.
Community Development Program: In this program, we provide better homes for HIV/AIDS widows. OGLM constructs homes for rural widows who have no better homes to rise up their children. $1,000 USD would help construct a standard house.
